Dufferin Grove Park

Outdoor shinny is the right of every Torontonian. Playing hockey under the stars is fantastic. There is a great little heated changeroom and they serve little snacks. Dufferin Grove is such an excellent neighbourhood park for people in the lower West End.

It is open all year round and is not only a wonderful market full of organic and local produce, but it's an awesome park full of community activities and a great neighbourhood feeling.

If I had a dog, I would take him to Dufferin Grove Park and let him off his leash. Then he would be free to play with other dogs and I would be free to play with other humans... or humans pretending to be level 36 elf mages, if I brought my laptop. (Truth? I've never played an online RPG in my life. But at least elves don't pee on you or expect you to play this thing called 'catch', which is -- c'mon -- the stupidest game in the world.) Other outdoor venues: Yonge-Dundas Square and Harbourfront.

Local and organic in abundance. Markets like this and the Brickworks evoke the feeling of community and earnestness that you won’t find in any grocery store.

the sand pit is a civilization unto itself, there's the coffee and organic snack wagon in the summer, where else can you hang out in a yurt?

the goods for sale are all organic and largely local. It's great to build relationships with the producers and vendors that come out each Thursday afternoon, and an easy way to shop responsibly. Plus, fresh and seasonal is delicious.
